3 Methods to Accelerate Your Boot Time

3 Methods to Accelerate Your Boot Time

Your time is precious; you most likely don’t have enough to squander on waiting for your Windows operating system to boot up. Here are three methods to accelerate your Windows 10 boot time.

Naturally, you need to always check with IT to ensure it is all right before you make any changes to your system. Preferably, you'd just have IT handle it for you.

1. Utilize Fast Start-up
Windows 10 is supplied with a special function explicitly intended to accelerate the time it takes Windows to boot. Fast Start-up saves your boot information in a unique file system, which makes the startup process quicker the next time. Instead of going to sleep or shutting off completely, your device hovers somewhere in between.

To initiate Fast Start-up, open your Control Panel and scroll to Power Options (you may need to search for it). Then select Choose what the power buttons do. One of your checkbox options will be Turn on fast start-up. Remember: save your changes once you are finished.

2. Check Your Start-up Programs
Windows has a list of programs that start up with the operating system. While this list is meant to upgrade the user experience, it can easily become inflated and overcrowded, inevitably bogging down your system. Cutting dispensable programs from this process can help speed things back up.

Pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc will open the Task Manager and clicking the Start-up tab will produce this list, where you can deactivate any unnecessary applications. It is particularly imperative that you check with IT first to make sure what you're disabling is in fact unnecessary; deactivating the wrong program could result in numerous issues.

3. Basic Hardware Updates
Ultimately, allowing your equipment a few component upgrades can upgrade your performance significantly. For example: if you are not utilizing an SSD drive to hold your Windows 10 installation, you are missing out on some speed advantages. Adding a small SSD drive to run the operating system, as well as some additional RAM, will most likely give you the performance boost you are searching for.

Is your device running slow? We can help you out! Give Macro Systems a call at 703-359-9211 today.
